[§345] Rev 20:10: Satan Is Cast into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone
Revelation 20:10: And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
During the little season, the battle of the great God 1 will end quickly and decisively2 when fire from heaven devours the mortal armies of Gog and Magog in Revelation 20:9.3 Ezekiel 38:8 predicted this same punishment, saying: After many days thou shalt be visited.4 The fire from heaven will end the physical battle of the great God, but Satan and his unembodied sons of perdition must still be defeated. Thus, in the spiritual battle of the great God, Michael and his heavenly host will fight the devil that deceived them,5 meaning Satan who deceived the mortal sons of perdition.6 This is the final battle of the war that began in heaven7 after Lucifer rebelled during the grand council.8
In this final spiritual battle, Michael and his heavenly host will defeat Satan9 and his host of unembodied spirit sons of perdition.10 At that time, all the unembodied spirits of this earth will be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone.11 In Revelation 20:1-2, Satan and his followers were temporarily bound in the bottomless pit for the duration of the millennium.12 But at the end of the little season, they will be cast permanently into the lake of fire called outer darkness.13 This figurative lake is the second death14 where all sons of perdition suffer unspeakable torment and anguish forever.15
When Satan (the Dragon) and his unembodied host are cast into the Lake of fire in Revelation 20:10, they will join Cain (the Beast) and Judas Iscariot (the False Prophet) and their disembodied host who will be cast alive into the same place at Christ's Second Coming.16 This is recorded in Revelation 19:20.17 Since the Beast and the False Prophet will be permanently cast into the lake of fire with all their followers before the millennium, they will not participate in, or have any influence on the earth during, the battle of the great God after the millennium.18
In the lake of fire, both the unembodied and disembodied spirit sons of perdition will be tormented day and night for ever and ever, without ceasing.19 This phrase means literally to the ages of ages.20 In addition, they shall not have power over the saints any more at all forever.21 This will end Satan's eighth earthly kingdom of seven identified in Revelation 17:10-11.22
