[§143] Ecclesiastical and Political Kingdoms Merge

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the ecclesiastical kingdom of God on earth.1 In this earthly kingdom, the priesthood is organized into offices, quorums, and councils.2 This organization is the starting point for the full government of God3 that will begin to function during the future gathering of saints at Adam-ondi-Ahman.4

When Christ receives all priesthood keys at Adam-ondi-Ahman,5 he will implement his millennial government by merging the ecclesiastical and political kingdoms6 into a theocracy.7 The quorums and offices of the priesthood will be discontinued,8 and the priesthood will be reorganized according to the Patriarchal Order of the Priesthood by families.9 The Patriarchal Order is the priesthood organization for the Church of the Firstborn10 in its eternal form.11

The gathering at Adam-ondi-Ahman will begin the era of open communion12 between worthy mortal members from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the general assembly in heaven13 and those from the Church of the Firstborn.14 Daniel 7:10 identifies the general assembly as the ten thousand times ten thousand (or 100 million) celestial-worthy people that will stand before the Ancient of Days at Adam-ondi-Ahman.15 The same verse also identifies another thousand thousands (one million) of ministers who are exaltation-worthy members of the Church of the Firstborn.16 John symbolically describes the same one million ministers as 144,000 Servants who minister as saviors on mount Zion17 to bring as many as will come into the Church of the Firstborn.18

The ecclesiastical and political kingdoms of God will begin to merge at Adam-ondi-Ahman19 when Christ appears and takes dominion on earth from Satan.20 The perfected millennial government of Zion21 will then begin to emerge.22 This will also be a time of constitutional crisis when the United States Constitution will hang by a thread.23 Despite this threat, a constitutional form of government will survive into the millennium.24 The laws of the government of Zion25 will add to, rather than eliminate, the holy and godly protections of that inspired document.26 Ultimately, all forms of earthly government will be replaced by a single theocracy that Christ will rule personally.27 The full realization of Christ's millennial government will occur at and after the Second Coming.28 Until then, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her members will remain subject to the laws of earthly governments.29
