[§321] Rev 19:20: Defeat of the Beast and False Prophet
Revelation 19:20: And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
The spiritual battle of Armageddon will literally take place in the area of Jerusalem at Armageddon.1 In this epic battle, Christ and his army2 will defeat two armies of disembodied spirit sons of perdition3 that follow the beast (Cain)4 and the false prophet (Judas Iscariot).5
John first identified the False Prophet by name in Revelation 16:13.6 Some scholars mistakenly say that the False Prophet is the Second Beast from Revelation 13:11.7 The two are closely related, but the False Prophet is a more narrow symbol for the head of mortal sons of perdition that apostatize from Christ's true church in the latter days.8 These apostates are part of a larger group of false religionists and false religions of the latter days called the Great Whore.9 The Great Whore is also called Modern Babylon,10 which is an even broader symbol that includes both false religions and secular institutions.11 The antichristian powers of religion and secular institutions in the latter days are represented by the two horns on the Second Beast in Revelation 13:11.12 In short, the False Prophet symbolizes apostates within the religious part of the latter-day Second Beast,13 whose spiritual head is the disembodied spirit of Judas Iscariot. The Second Beast is synonymous with Modern Babylon.14
The False Prophet wrought miracles before the Second Beast,15 which John also describes in Revelation 13:13-14.16 These miracles deceive honorable people of the earth who eventually inherit the terrestrial kingdom.17 The deceptions also cause less than honorable people to willfully worship the worldliness of the First Beast, including the same ideals and idols found in the ancient Roman Empire.18 The willful worshipers include people that live telestial law standards.19 In Revelation 13:16, these people symbolically receive the mark of the beast in their right hand because the outward actions of their hands evidence their devotion to the Second Beast named 666.20 Apostate members of the true church of Jesus Christ, on the other hand receive the mark of the beast in their forehead in Revelation 13:16 because this symbolizes their full inward commitment and devotion to the Second Beast.21 They become mortal sons of perdition because they willfully choose evil as they apostatize and openly fight against the Lamb and his latter-day church.22 They rebel against the light of the gospel because they love Satan more than they love God. They share the fate of Judas Iscariot‒the archetypical apostate‒who is their spiritual head and False Prophet.23
When the Second Beast and the False Prophet are defeated with their armies during Spiritual Armageddon, they will be forcibly cast24 alive25 into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.26 This lake of fire represents27 the final torment of hell,28 also known as outer darkness.29 Institutions, governments, and mortal people cannot be cast alive into a lake of fire, but disembodied spirits can be, including Cain and Judas Iscariot.30 They and their armies of disembodied spirit sons of perdition will be the first spirits31 to suffer unending torment32 in the lake of fire,33 which is a spiritual death34 called the second death.35
Cain (the Beast) and Judas (the False Prophet) will be permanently cast into the lake of fire in Revelation 19:2036 before the Dragon (Satan)37 is separately and temporarily bound38 in the bottomless pit with his unembodied followers in Revelation 20:1-3.39 The first three verses in Revelation chapter 20 describe the final end of Spiritual Armageddon at the Second Coming. This final victory of the Second Coming is only temporary, however, because Satan and his unembodied followers won't be defeated permanently until the battle of Gog and Magog is complete during the little season after the millennium.40 At that time‒which is also the end of the earth‒the Dragon (Satan) and his unembodied followers will permanently join the Second Beast (Cain) and the False Prophet (Judas) with their disembodied followers in the lake of fire burning with brimstone.41
