Revelation 16:14: For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

Revelation 16:13 introduced the image of three symbolic frogs who represent the spirits of devils¹ called the Dragon (Satan), the Beast (Cain), and the False Prophet (Judas Iscariot).² These three spirits of devils stand at the head of all unembodied and disembodied spirit sons of perdition³ that have an unseen presence on the earth in these latter days.⁴ Both classes of evil spirits are active in the world⁵ with great power.⁶ They influence world events by working miracles⁷ that deceive mortal people and they will continue to do so until the Second Coming.⁸ During the sixth Vial Plague of the Third Woe all the evil spirits on earth will miraculously gather for the spiritual battle of Armageddon as recorded in Revelation 16:14.⁹

During the sixth Vial Plague the three spirits of devils will gather evil spirits to Armageddon for Spiritual Armageddon that will be fought during the seventh Vial Plague. This mirrors the First Woe, when evil spirits will gather mortal people to Armageddon for Physical Armageddon that will be fought during the Second Woe.¹⁰ In the context of the First Woe and Second Woe, evil spirits go forth¹¹ to influence mortal leaders and kings of wicked nations to fight the battles of Physical Armageddon.¹² In Isaiah 24:21, the leaders of these wicked nations are called the "kings of the earth on earth."¹³ When these earthly (mortal) kings gather wicked people from all nations they will fight a physical war amongst themselves in the seven-year battle of Physical Armageddon.¹⁴

In the context of the Third Woe and Spiritual Armageddon, by contrast, the kings of the earth and of the whole world represent the evil spirits themselves.¹⁵ Isaiah 24:21 described this group as "the host of the high ones." These evil hosts from hell rule the whole world like kings having great dominion.¹⁶ These evil spirit-kings will be gathered to Armageddon with the three spirits of devils, working miracles to battle Christ and the hosts of heaven called the kings of the east in Revelation 16:12.¹⁷ Christ is an actual combatant in the spiritual battle of Armageddon, so John appropriately calls it the battle of that great day of God Almighty.¹⁸ The Second Coming victory of God Almighty will not be complete until he defeats the unembodied and disembodied spirit sons of perdition in Spiritual Armageddon.¹⁹ From the foregoing, it is apparent that Armageddon is more than a battle, it is a war made up of many battles that include both physical and spiritual combatants.²⁰

There are many parallels and typological similarities between Physical Armageddon during the Second Woe in Revelation chapter 9 and Spiritual Armageddon during the Third Woe in Revelation chapter 16.²¹ Most scholars believe they are the same battle and mistakenly say that the gathering of evil spirits for Spiritual Armageddon in Revelation chapter 16 also describes the gathering of earthly armies for Physical Armageddon in Revelation chapter 9.²² These are very different events that are not even part of the same Woe in John's chronological and non-repetitive visions.
