[§185] Spirit Creations Are Multi-generational
A spirit creation1 took place long before the physical creation of all things on this earth.2 The scriptures do not contain a detailed account of the spirit creation.3 They simply indicate that such a creation occurred.4 This creation occurred long before the grand council in heaven and other premortal events that John describes in Revelation 12:1-12. The spirit creation is the logical and necessary starting place to understand the premortal signs that John describes in these verses.
During the spirit creation, God the Father organized the spirit bodies5 of this earth and all other things.6 He created or organized these spirit bodies from eternally7 existing material8 called spirit element,9 spirit matter,10 and intelligence.11 The idea of an ex nihilo creation of something from nothing is a false doctrine.12 From eternally-existing spirit material, God created the spirits of countless worlds.13 He also created the spirits of all plants14 and all animals on those countless worlds.15 God also created spirit children.16 These spirit children were born to an exalted Mother in Heaven17 through an act of procreation with God the Father.18 All premortal spirit bodies had the appearance of their future physical bodies.19 The inward spirit bodies created by God give life to the outward physical bodies of all things.20 This earth is no exception.21
Gods have engaged in the same pattern of creation22 for many generations.23 God the Father is glorified and exalted because he followed in the footsteps of a glorified and exalted Father before him.24 By obedience to the eternal laws of the gospel, God the Father in his generation progressed to a state of Godhood to become as his exalted Father.25 When God's children from this generation are exalted by the same gospel laws,26 they will become as God now is27 and they will create spirit bodies for their spirit children.28 A plurality of Gods exist in heaven29 because there is an endless line of Gods30 from many past generations.31 The Gods in every generation are creators in their own right32 and each generation of Gods follows the same perfect pattern of creation.33 The pattern is perfectly ordered34 and governed by fixed laws35 in this universe36 and in every other universe of every God in every generation.37
The generations of Gods had no beginning and they will have no end, but there are many beginnings and endings38 to the creative work of each God in each generation.39 Moses 1:38 describes the unending creations in all generations, saying, "as one earth shall pass away, and the heavens thereof even so shall another come."40 Even though creation is an unending process, this current generation of God the Father had an ultimate beginning41 and will, therefore, have an ultimate end.42 In Moses 1:39, the Father identified his work (singular) in his generation on his many worlds by saying: "This is my work and my glory‒to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man."43 That is, the Father carried out his own work (singular) through Jesus Christ, who is the word of his power44 or simply the word45 (singular). The Father has only one First Begotten Son to carry out his work and glory on this earth and all other worlds created by his word, Jesus Christ, in this generation.46
God's creative work (singular) in this generation had a beginning and will have an end.47 Nevertheless, the Father states in Moses 1:3848 that "there is no end to my works [plural], neither to my words [plural]."49 Some people misinterpret this verse to mean that the Father will continually create new worlds without end and populate them with spirit children that are his direct offspring without end.50 That misinterpretation also erroneously implies that the Father is still having spirit children that will continue to fill worlds that he continuously creates forever.51 Correctly viewed, the Father declared that his works and words (plural) will continue without end because the creative works of his exalted posterity52 will continue for all eternity in generation after generation.53 In other words, the Father's exalted children will become Gods and they will pattern their creative works (plural) in their generation after the Father's work (singular) in his generation.54
The Father refers to the works of his exalted posterity as his own works because his children will consecrate55 their creative works back to the Father as though they were his own.56 In this way, God continues to progress in glory by the creative works of his exalted posterity.57 His posterity also shares in his creations as joint-heirs.58 Based on the celestial laws of consecration and joint-heirship,59 the Gods of every generation share in, and have claim upon, the creations of the Gods of every other generation.60 As the exalted Gods of every generation consecrate their creative work (singular) to all other Gods in every generation, there will be no end to all their works (plural) and to the increase of their kingdoms.61 The creative works of God's exalted offspring in their manifold generations62 are called the continuation of the lives or the continuation of the seeds.63
