[§89] The 144,000 Become Saviors on Mount Zion

During the sixth seal and beyond,1 the 144,000 Servants with the seal of the living God2 have a two-fold assignment on both sides of the veil of death.3 First, on this side of the veil, they administer the everlasting gospel to bring as many as will come to the Church of the Firstborn.4 This means they are mortal administrators5 who perform all the necessary ordinances of the gospel on earth for anyone that will inherit the celestial kingdom before the resurrection.6 These worthy men7 and women8 are saviors on mount Zion as they build temples9 and administer ordinances for both the living and the dead in those temples.10 By doing so, they literally become11 saviors on mount Zion.12

Many saints in this day have been foreordained to perform this saving work13 on behalf of all nations, kindreds, tongues, and peoples.14 They are saviors (lowercase)15 because they work to save those who cannot save themselves.16 They serve on mount Zion, which is a symbolic synonym for the temple17 or mountain of the Lord's house,18 where exalting ordinances are performed.19 Mount Zion is a reference to the ancient City of David20 and to the temple mount in Old Jerusalem.21

As the 144,000 saviors on mount Zion bring as many as will come to the Church of the Firstborn22 through missionary service on earth23 a similar missionary work must be performed in the spirit world.24 Thus, when any of the 144,000 Servants die, their disembodied spirits continue to labor on the other side of the veil in celestial paradise.25 They are missionaries to the disembodied spirits in prison.26 The spirits in prison come to the Church of the Firstborn27 as they accept the gospel and receive the ordinances of the temple28 through mortal proxies.29 This work will bring about the redemption of Israel.30 Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints accomplish this work for the dead as they conduct family history research and perform vicarious temple ordinances31 on this side of the veil32 while missionary work proceeds among the disembodied spirits33 on the other side of the veil.34 Saviors on mount Zion will continue to perform missionary work and sealing ordinances to exalt mankind until the Second Coming on a growing scale,35 and then on a massive scale throughout the millennium.36

The 144,000 saviors on mount Zion accomplish their saving work for the dead37 through a collaborative effort of people and spirits on both sides of the veil.38 Members in the Church of the Firstborn on the other side of the veil39 can commune with worthy priesthood holders40 and faithful sisters on earth,41 including the 144,000 Servants in this life that are sealed up to eternal life.42 Communion between the living and the dead occurred in the primitive church43 and it occurs again in these last days.44 The veil of death will become increasingly thin as the Second Coming approaches to the point that there will be open and ongoing contact between mortals and immortals–both disembodied spirits of the just and resurrected persons–during the millennium.45
