[§46] Rev 4:11: God the Father Glorified As the Creator of all Things

Revelation 4:11: Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

In this verse, the 24 Elders1 speak a three-fold doxology on behalf of all creation.2 They praise God the Father because he is worthy to receive (take)3 all glory and honor and power4 as the ultimate creator of all things.5

God's pleasure or his will6 was and is to create and redeem all things.7 His ultimate work and glory as stated in Moses 1:39 is "to bring to pass the immorality and eternal life of man."8 This process is made possible through the creative and redemptive acts of Jesus Christ.9 Therefore, Christ is also worthy of the glory, honor, and power expressed in this verse.10

God's creations are and were created according to his will.11 Some scholars are baffled by these words12 and interpret them to mean that God created all things from nothing.13 However, there has never been a creation of something from nothing (ex nihilo).14 The words express the simple truth that God's creations continue without end according to an established pattern15 across endless generations of Gods.16

Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
