[§291] Rev 17:14: The Latter-day War of the Kings/Beast with the Lamb
Revelation 17:14: These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
War has been part of the earth's history since Cain murdered his brother Abel.1 When Christ died, Satan (the Dragon)2 made war against the remnant of saints from Christ's ancient church.3 This war continued until the First Beast in Revelation chapter 13 entirely overcame the saints during the Great Apostasy.4 Satan's war against the saints resumed in 1830,5 when the Lord brought The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints out of obscurity from the wilderness6 to become an army with banners arrayed against the Second Beast7 as the latter-day successor of the First Beast in Revelation chapter 13.8 Since the restoration in 1830, the Second Beast and the leaders of modern nations (ten kings),9 unitedly make war with the Lamb.10 That is, they make war on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is the church of the Lamb. The Second Beast and ten kings will continue to wage this war until their defeat during the physical and spiritual battles of Armageddon.11
This latter-day war with the Lamb is more than just a spiritual battle between good and evil.12 The American Civil War was the first war13 of the modern era14 that Satan waged against the Lamb.15 At that time, the Second Beast was given power to take peace from the earth.16 With that power, the Second Beast tried to destroy the United States17 as the birthplace of,18 and protective cradle for,19 Christ's restored church during its infancy.20 Satan attacked the United States as a pre-emptive attack on God's earthly kingdom before it could mature,21 but God was on the side of the Union.22 God also preserved his church and kingdom in the western wilderness of the Salt Lake Valley.23 There it grew in strength and flourished away from the politics and deadly Civil War in the east.24
Since the Civil War, there has been a constant series of wars and rumors of wars on the earth.25 Warfare is one of many signs of the times.26 Wars will multiply and intensify27 as the dominion of the Great Whore of false religion and Second Beast of Modern Babylon28 continues to grow throughout the world.29 Their latter-day physical warfare with the Lamb will end when Christ prevails in the physical battle of Armageddon.30 This holy war31 will entirely consume the nations, powers, and dominions of the ten kings.32 1 Nephi 14:13 describes the wars leading up to, and including Armageddon, saying, "the great mother of abominations [will] gather together multitudes upon the face of all the earth, among all the nations of the Gentiles, to fight against the Lamb of God."33
Revelation 17:14 alludes to Armageddon as the final battle when the Lamb shall overcome the ten kings.34 This final battle is both physical and spiritual. John separately describes these two battles. First, Physical Armageddon occurs during the Second Woe described in Revelation 9:13-21,35 11:1-1436 and 14:18-20.37 Second, Revelation 16:12-1638 describes the preparation of evil spirits for Spiritual Armageddon during the Third Woe. Revelation 19:19-20 and Revelation 20:1-3, describe Christ's Third Woe victory over both disembodied and unembodied spirits, respectively.39 Third and finally, Revelation 19:11-1840 and 19:2141 describe the end of Physical Armageddon during the Third Woe at Christ's Second Coming to the mount of Olives and then to all the world, respectively. The Lamb shall overcome the ten kings42 during Spiritual and Physical Armageddon for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings.43 That is, Christ is Lord over all ecclesiastical kingdoms and King over all political kingdoms.
Christ will become Lord of lords, and King of kings44 when he is coronated45 as such during the future gathering of saints46 at Adam-ondi-Ahman.47 This gathering will occur at the midpoint of Armageddon, 3½ years before the Second Coming.48 At that time, Satan's earthly power49 and his dominion50 among the ten kings of Modern Babylon will reach their maximum extent.51 Christ's coronation will cause Modern Babylon to fall spiritually52 as Christ reclaims his rightful dominion on earth.53 The spiritual fall of Babylon during Adam-ondi-Ahman is not the catastrophic physical fall of Babylon that will accompany the Second Coming.54 Christ's coronation at Adam-ondi-Ahman is merely the final turning point on earth when Satan's power and dominion has reached its maximum extent and begins to decline as Christ begins to exercise his earthly power and his earthly dominion begins to increase.55
The Great Tribulation will occur during the last 3½ years of Physical Armageddon after Christ's coronation at Adam-ondi-Ahman.56 Despite the many horrors of the Great Tribulation, including the final Abomination of Desolation in Jerusalem,57 Zion (New Jerusalem) will not be at war58 and the Two Witnesses will miraculously preserve Old Jerusalem during the last 3½ years of Armageddon as described in Revelation 11:1-10.59 Ultimately, the Lord of lords, and King of kings will overcome the ten kings at the Second Coming60 and he will do so in the company of they that are with him [who] are called, and chosen, and faithful.61 These called, chosen, and faithful saints are the 144,000 Servants that will stand with Christ on heavenly mount Zion and then descend with him during his Second Coming.62 They are the kings of the east from Revelation 16:12, 63 and the armies of heaven from Revelation 19:14.64
