[§335] The Celestial Resurrection Continues for 1000 Years
10/25/2026
This podcast explains the two stages of celestial resurrection that include the morning of the first resurrection before the second coming for exaltation-worthy saints and the afternoon of the first resurrection that begins immediately after the Second Coming for unexalted ministering angels of the celestial kingdom. Both stages of resurrection are described in Doctrine and Covenants 88:97-99. The afternoon of the first resurrection is described in verse 99, specifically, which states: “And after this another angel shall sound, which is the second trump; and then cometh the redemption of those who are Christ's at his coming; who have received their part in that prison which is prepared for them, that they might receive the gospel, and be judged according to men in the flesh.” Leaders and scholars in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints interpret this verse to mean the terrestrial resurrection, rather than the second stage of the celestial resurrection. This podcast explains why verse 99 is part of the celestial resurrection by comparing it to Paul’s writings in 1 Corinthians 15:23 and 29, and also by analyzing the language in D&C 88:97-102 for all four stages of resurrection for celestial, terrestrial, telestial, and sons of perdition.
