[§294] Rev 17:18: The Great Whore Reigns over Modern Babylon

This podcast explains the imagery and symbolism used by John in Revelation 17:18, which states: “And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.” This verse is dualistic, which means it has two separate meanings. The symbol of the woman of false religion is first identified as that great city. This refers to Rome as the seat of power in the ancient Roman Empire, including the Holy Roman Empire through the time of the Protestant Reformation. From ancient Rome, the Roman emperors ruled over the kings of the earth throughout the middle and dark ages,   Ancient Rome is a type and foreshadow for Spiritual Babylon in the modern era. Revelation 17:18 identifies Modern Babylon (the Great Whore and Babylon the Great) as that great city which also reigns over the kings of the earth. Modern Babylon is not a single city but a collection of all cities where the evils of Modern Babylon can be found.
