[§160] The “Seventy Weeks Prophecy” [490 Years] of Daniel

This podcast provides an explanatory overview of the Seventy Weeks Prophecy found in Daniel 9:24-27. In this prophecy, Daniel precisely explains the timing of Jesus Christ's death and atonement as well as the timing of his Second Coming as a fixed date in time. The chronology of these events is measured from the time that the Persian king Artaxerxes issued his decree in 444 BC for the Jews to rebuild the city walls in Jerusalem. When Daniel was approximately 85 years old, he prayed to know when the 70 years of Jewish captivity in Babylon would end based on the prophecy of Jeremiah. In response to his petition, the angel Gabriel compared the release of the Jews from 70 years of physical bondage to the release from spiritual bondage and the setting up of God's kingdom on earth at the Second Coming to seven times 70 prophetic years (or 490 years). The Seventy Weeks Prophecy provides specific timelines for the death of Christ during his first advent and the Second Coming after 490 years. The 490 years are broken down into three groups that include seven weeks of years (49 years) for the rebuilding of the walls and city of Jerusalem, 62 weeks of years (434 years) during the intertestamental period, a gap of approximately 2000 years, followed by one week of seven years. The final 70th week is the last seven years before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ when the battle of Armageddon will occur.
