The Second Beast Marks His Followers enroute to Hell
The Mark, the Image, and the Road to Destruction

Modern Worshipers of the Second Beast
Revelation 13:14–16 describes the latter-day conditions we now live in, when the Second Beast deceives “them that dwell on the earth” and persuades them to make an image to the First Beast, representing the wickedness of the ancient Roman Empire. (Rev 13:14)
We are on the path of re-living the evils of ancient Rome, and few people realize it because the Second Beast has the outward appearance of a lamb, yet speaks like a dragon—that is, Satan. (Rev 13:11)
The Second Beast:
“Deifies the spirit of worldliness; but he does it by deception and subtlety: there is an appearance of wonderful power.”
(Charles John Ellicott, Ellicott’s Commentary for English Readers, Rev 13:14)
So great is Satan’s power in the false religions and secular institutions of our day that:
“If possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” (JS–H 1:22)
President Ezra Taft Benson warned that:
“There is a conspiracy of evil” in our day that is “manifest through governments; through false educational, political, economic, religious, and social philosophies.”
(Ensign, May 1978, 33)

The Wicked Make an Image to the First Beast
The Second Beast influences worldly people in the modern age to make an image to the First Beast of the ancient Roman Empire.
In this way, people mold themselves in the image of the First Beast—both in their inward devotions and outward expressions.
The Second Beast seeks to repeat the spiritual bondage that prevailed in the Roman Empire for more than a thousand years. As a result, worshipers of the Second Beast increasingly reshape modern society in the image of the First Beast.
In doing so, the Second Beast has:
“Power to give life unto the image of the beast … and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.” (Rev 13:15)
Such was the fate of many in the Roman Empire, who were killed because their faith in Jesus Christ did not conform to the one approved religion of the empire.
Modern martyrdom lies in our future as we increasingly re-live the past.
Worshipers of the Second Beast Receive His Mark
Worshipers of the Second Beast in the modern age will:
“Receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads.” (Rev 13:16)
This symbolic mark (666) parallels the branding of slaves in the ancient Roman Empire, which signified ownership and servitude.
Those who receive the mark of the Second Beast adhere to the ideals of the First Beast in their lifestyle and loyalties.
The mark of the beast stands in direct opposition to the seal of the living God described in Revelation 7:2–3, which is placed in the forehead of those worthy of exaltation and eternal life.
The location of the mark is symbolically significant:
A mark in the right hand represents human action—obedience from a sense of duty or fidelity that supports the ideals of the Second Beast.
A mark in the forehead represents total devotion of heart, mind, and soul to the Second Beast.
This distinction mirrors the difference between:
Telestial-worthy people, who are
Sons of perdition, who are wholly devoted to Satan,
