The Great Hail and the Great Whore (Rev 16:21)

The Genesis of the Great Hail (Rev 16:18-21)

The greatest earthquake in history will occur during the seventh Vial Plague of the Third Woe, which John describes in Revelation 16:18-20. John then describes a great hailstorm with stones that weigh as much, or more than, 75 pounds each in Revelation 16:21. Natural laws will bring about the earthquake and the massive hailstorm. These are not isolated events.

Continents will merge and reunite during the future great earthquake due to the same geologic forces that rapidly divided the continents during the flood in the days of Noah. This flood was accompanied by hail on the day that "all the fountains of the great deep [were] broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened." (Gen 7:11) Based on this verse, Dr. Walt Brown's "hydroplate theory" postulates that on the day of Noah's flood, huge amounts of water were loosed suddenly from subterranean chambers where it had been trapped beneath the earth's crust under immense pressure. When the crust ruptured, huge fountains of water shot into the upper atmosphere where it froze and fell back to earth as snow and hail. This theoretical model may explain what will occur during the seventh Vial Plague when the continents reunite from the same geologic forces as the flood.

Genesis 1:6-7 describes the presence of subterranean waters (or fountains of the great deep) on the second day of the physical creation. In these verses: "God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so." The firmament in these verses is the earth's crust that solidified to a depth of 5-10 miles as the earth's hot magma cooled and expelled vast amounts of water onto the earth's surface. Once the crust solidified sufficiently, the cooling magma beneath the crust continued to expel water but it was trapped in subterranean chambers under great pressure. The catastrophic flood was a disaster waiting to happen since the second day of the physical creation.

Vast amounts of water escaped from the subterranean chambers during the flood, but magma has been cooling in the earth's mantle for another 5000 years since the flood. This means another disaster (i.e., the greatest earthquake of all time) is just waiting to happen. When it occurs, the continents will rapidly reunite accompanied by deadly hailstones as in the days of Noah.

The Great Whore of False Religion (Rev 17:1-2)

The great hailstorm can be explained by natural laws in the earth's geology, but it will also come as a judgment from God. Joseph Smith said: "Now I am prepared to say by the authority of Jesus Christ, that not many years shall pass away before the United States shall present such a scene of bloodshed as has not a parallel in the history of our nation; pestilence, hail, famine, and earthquake will sweep the wicked of this generation from off the face of the land." (TPJS, 17) The great earthquake and hailstorm will sweep away wicked people at the Second Coming and all their wicked ways represented by the Great Whore of false religion in Revelation 17:1-2. They will be swept off because the wicked refuse to repent. (Rev 16:21) In this day, "among the wicked, men shall lift up their voices and curse God and die."
